NMB Bank Leads Financial Closure for Tila 1 Hydropower Project
NMB Bank Ltd. has successfully executed the financial closure as the Lead Bank for the Tila 1 Hydropower Project (Generation License Capacity: 440 MW) located in Kalikot District.
Promoted by S.C. Power Company Pvt. Ltd., the project is being constructed on the Tila Khola with an estimated total project cost of NPR 59.4 Billion. Out of the total cost, the consortium banks will inject debt financing (Term Loan) worth NPR 44.55 Billion.
In this financial arrangement, NMB Bank Ltd. serves as the Lead Bank, alongside Global IME Bank Ltd., Himalayan Bank Ltd., and Prabhu Bank Ltd. as Co-Lead Banks. Similarly, Other Banks and Financial Institutions are acting as the Member Bank too.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Dinesh Dulal, Assistant General Manager, on behalf of NMB Bank Ltd., and Ms. Susan Karmacharya, Chairman, on behalf of S.C. Power Company Pvt. Ltd. This represents the largest privately developed hydropower project in terms of installed capacity to date.
S.C. Power Company Pvt. Ltd. is led by Ms. Susan Karmacharya and group. The project has a generation license capacity of 440 MW, with a Required Commercial Operation Date (RCOD) set for December 31, 2030 (2087/09/15 B.S.) per the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The initiative is projected to generate NPR 11.4 Billion in revenue during its first year of operation.
Adhering to the Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM) guidelines issued by Nepal Rastra Bank, NMB Bank continues to implement robust environmental and social management frameworks to ensure responsible and sustainable investments. Similarly, adopting international best practices, the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects of the Tila 1 Hydropower Project were evaluated using the Hydroselect Tool, an ESG screening assessment framework developed by the Hydropower Sustainability Alliance (HSA). To date, NMB Bank has financed over 50 hydropower projects across Nepal.
